Foods Diabetics can have without any worry! 😁

Diabetes is a chronic condition where levels of sugar (glucose) in blood increase! ☹️ In diabetes, our body is not able to produce enough insulin or if it can produce it, our cells aren’t able to recognize the insulin and hence, can’t use it in a proper manner. This inability to utilize insulin leads to diabetes and high blood sugar levels! 🤔

In diabetes, there are many misconceptions on what a person should or shouldn’t eat. This myth may give rise to fluctuation in blood sugar levels! So, let’s have a look at what to eat and what not to eat:

👉 HONEY 🍯: We all are aware that Honey is a sweet substance produced by bees after days of hard work. 🐝 It does tastes yummy. Let’s classify Honey in two types:

  1. Processed Honey: The honey which we buy from market is processed one. It is the made using white sugar and has very less nutritional benefits. So it’s a big NO for diabetic patients!!
  2. Raw Honey: We can purchase raw honey from market and it is unprocessed and natural. Therefore, it contains all nutritional benefits. Diabetic patients can easily have it! 🤩 Although honey is pure sucrose, having it once in a while is completely okay but please avoid having it regularly! I hope your biggest doubt has been cleared. Yippee!

👉 BANANA 🍌: Good news for you! Even if you have diabetes, you can have every fruit you want! Bananas have moderate Glycemic Index (takes time to be converted into sugar and reach blood) and are super rich in fiber (among all other fruits). So, they are a big YES for you! It is also a good source of Magnesium that also decreases insulin resistance and improves body functions to recognise insulin! 🕺 You ask, How much can you have? 2 bananas a day is just perfect for you, friend!!

👉 COCONUT WATER 🥥: Coconut water always gives us amazing taste, hydration, and makes us feel satisfied! You know why? It is a perfect refreshing drink packed with minerals which is good for maintaining electrolyte balance in our body. It works as a miracle for a commonly reported symptom in diabetes which is “pain in legs and calf muscles”. You are doing great! 🤪 Please keep one thing in mind- If your kidney health is compromised, and serum electrolytes (potassium and sodium) are on higher side, please limit it’s intake. It would be even better if you avoid it. 😉

👉 SWEET POTATO 🍠: Are you fond of potatoes but can’t have them due to diabetes? Well, I have the best alternative for you! It will provide you perfect taste keeping your sugar levels under control. Go for sweet potato, which is abundant in fiber and is considered a superfood for diabetics!! Isn’t this great? 😎

👉 MILK : Since we were a child, we have only heard amazing benefits of milk. It is a marvelous drink which can be blended into anything and keeps our health in check. 🥛 If you have diabetes, you can certainly have milk! It contains lactose sugar that does not affect blood sugars directly!! Woohoo!! 🤩

👉 RICE 🍚: Rice after a hectic day sure gives us satisfaction! You know what’s even better? Brown Rice! They are brown in color because they are unpolished and not processed. We will not force you to have brown rice, you can have it if you like it. If you want to have white rice, you can surely have them after removing their starch content! White rice being our staple diet should not be stopped at all and do not worry about it’s high Glycemic Index! Best would be to have it in lunch. 🍛

Let’s get on the path of breaking the myths and let’s educate others too! Have a happy healthy meal :)

Stay healthy, our friend!! 😇
