All babies cry but sometimes it may happen that your baby keeps crying without any cause or reason. If your baby cries more than 3 hours a day 3 days a week for at least 1 week despite being healthy, they may have colic. The crying may be more common in the afternoon and evening.
Some other symptoms of colic are:
- Difficulty to soothe your crying baby
- The baby clenching their fists while crying
- Their face becoming red while crying
- They arch their back by bringing up their tummy while crying
- Their stomach rumbles or they’re windy while crying
Colic usually stops when a baby is 3–4 months old.
How to manage colic?
- You should hold or cuddle your baby when they’re crying a lot
- Try to sit or hold your baby upright during feeds so that they don’t swallow a lot of air
- Burp your baby after feeds
- Gently rock your baby over your shoulders or in their crib
- Warm baths may help
- Try distracting your baby with gentle sounds like radio or TV in the background to distract them
- Feed your baby as usual
